Is TV money ruining the working class sport?

Now I love watching football in the comfort of my own home as much as the next man or woman. But is this leading to the death of a sport we know and love?

Sky and BT paid a whopping £4.464bn to show 160 Premier League games a season from 2019/20 until 2021/22. On average, that’s £9.3m per game. Bringing football to the fingertips of billions across the world is revolutionary but the negative impact this is having on the sport cannot be measured in figures.

The power that broadcasting companies now have to schedule matches at impractical kick-off times is leading to empty seats at stadiums up and down the country, and a demise in the passion, entertainment and excitement that has become accustomed to British football.

Unless football clubs and fans make a stand against the modern football regime, the beautiful game is going to continue to suffer.
